Runes/Elder Futhark The thing communly understood to be the runes are a widely misunderstood thing. What most people consider them to be is a very powerfull divination devise used by the Tribes preChristian Europe to fortell the future. This is an accurate definition of what the runes after the year of 500 ce. Before that labeling the Futhark as anything other then a multi faceted tool would be selling them short. The language took on many different forms in the first 1000 years of its known by Mediterranean cultures existence. It first was translated and altered slightly by the Saxons, then the Anglos, then where the cultures merged again it then became Anglo Saxon. Then old Gaelic, then old English, then middle English. Each culture adding sounds and its own touches to the existing language altering just enough. All those alterations over 1000 years changed it enough that it was not recognizable from the origins exit for some of the characters where drawn the same way. |
